He received a BFA in Sculpture from the<br />Maryland Institute College of Art, a Masters in Urban Planning from<br />the City College of New York, and attended the Whitney Independent<br />Study Program. Cox was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, received his BFA from Indiana Univeristy and spent time living in Tokyo before moving to New York City in 2005. Cox finished his Masters of Fine Art at Columbia University in 2010 and was awarded the Daisy Soros Prize to study in Salzburg that Summer. Since graduating from Columbia, Cox has exhibited USA/MFA at Bezalel in Tel Aviv, Israel; Salzburg, Austria; The School of the Art Institute of Chicago; and has participated in a number of group shows in Brooklyn and Manhattan including the Elizabeth Foundation, Gowanus Studio Space and St. Cecelia's Parish. During this time she began developing a specific set of techniques for inside-piano performance. Mayas has concentrated her musical investigations on the piano and its sonic possibilities, utilizing extended techniques, amplification and preparations as a process of abstraction, whilst focusing on the physicality of both internal and external parts of the piano.
